Larry Harvey inducted into Connors State Hall of Fame
Larry Harvey of Beggs was among a group of alumni that were inducted into the Connors State College Hall of Fame April 27.
Harvey was born and raised in Beggs, where he graduated high school. From there, he went on to Connors State College where he earned an associate degree in 1963. After Connors, Larry attended Oklahoma State University receiving a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education in 1965, and then his master’s degree in 1986.
Larry taught Agriculture Education at Beggs for 34 years, before retiring in 2000. He mentored future agriculture teachers at OSU for 15 years while serving on the Agriculture Education State Vocational Curriculum Development Committee. Larry has trained many state champion parliamentary procedure teams along with winning National FFA teams in pasture, range and land.
Harvey has been fortunate to receive many awards throughout his career. Those include the Honorary State and American FFA Degrees, the Teacher of Teachers’ Gold Award, and he was the eighth honoree of the Outstanding Agriculture Education Teacher Hall of Fame in Oklahoma. Harvey was honored by having a scholarship established in his name at OSU in the College of Agriculture Education department.
Harvey currently serves as the Vice President of East Central Electric Cooperative as well as the Oklahoma FFA Foundation and Okmulgee County Farm Bureau Boards. He is a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
He received his 50 year pin from the Beggs Lions Club and Masonic Lodge as well as serving six years in the Army Reserves.
Larry and his wife Helen, have two children and five grandchildren.
