Sure thing Tam, you're right, I haven't seen 4 Tam fans explode in the last 2 years. Truth is if you're going to lay blame on the manufacturer when you customize an installation, who do you think is the likely culprit? If you would have taken some blame sure but really, the former glue melted? Sad...

Tam said himself a lesson was learned from this install and it won't happen a second time. All I said was there is a "system", not just part "A connects to part B", these guys are engineers, these planes are maybe the most refined and documented you can buy. Maybe you should build one, then you could appreciate the design and the point I am making which is if you deviate from the plans, you should be big enough to own up to the fallout...

Some day Jack I will indeed! I love the looks, performance and resale value. It's like buying a "66" A.C. Cobra Yellow Aircraft Twin F-18 build (maiden video added to pg 1) - Page 14 (11) You can own it, run the dogpiss out of it, and still get your money when you feel the need for something different. Pursuit of Happiness

Thread OP

Ok guys I don't normally care what goes on in my threads, but this one is close to my heart.
Chris maned up and said he could be wrong about what happened... I just saw the picture like him and it scared me also

Tam said what the deal was and it won't happen agian, he learned from it. I've seen Tams fan up close and it's great unit. Things can go wrong with any set up.

Jack theres no doubt that BVM is top notch, I can see where you got upset by the wording placing blame on BVM, but I don't think that is what was meant by it.... just explaining what happened.. it works with the Vio Fan but not if you mod it

So were all clear now on what went down, lets give it a rest and move on, don't need 5 pages on it Yellow Aircraft Twin F-18 build (maiden video added to pg 1) - Page 14 (16)

Ron,
Hope too see this plane in the air soon.

Thanks Tam! It's going to be a long time out... I want to really have fun with the paint work over the winter. It's a fun build and so far not as hard as I've heard guys say it is for years... I'll keep pluggin along

Yep! I can't wait to see this one flying! Have you picked a scheme for it yet? Having a final scheme always keeps me going on long projects :C

Let the man run what ever fan he wants its his plane doooood.

You guys are funny,,,,,,, bla bla bla,,,,, my fan is better that yours etc etc etc... It was my Electra that the fan blew up in.. All I have to say is that prior to big jolt over the Taliban I have never had an issue with the tj120 blower... I have had it for a year and it has been FLAWLESS. Big power and great sound... I know nothing about woo woos besides flying them and charging the packs and i intend to keep it that wayYellow Aircraft Twin F-18 build (maiden video added to pg 1) - Page 14 (30).

You want a great working fan system 70mm-120mm I would recommend any of tams set ups. I have flown em all.. Power, sound, efficiency etc etc.. Lots of other suppliers talk talk talk and never fly. Test bench running and telemetry screens are just excuses for individuals lacking the cajones to fly. Tam units and BV units are by far the most reliable set ups available period.

I am with ya. Tams fan and BVM fans are by far the most reliable bullet proof set ups. I was mistaken on what happened in that picture.

Sorry for not reading it all from beginning. These questions likely answered already.

I'm close to pulling the trigger on this jet. It looks like you've decided on 120mm fans. Where will you get the ducting? Why did you not go with a Dynamax fan?
With some searching I found that Extreme RC has the dynamax fan for up to 45mm motor. Real bummer it's not for 49mm so a 19series Neu would fit!
Sapac had the Dynamax as a package with Neu 15 series or Scorpion but I can't find it on their store. Will call them on Monday to see if still available. A pair of the 6100 watt ones should work.

Hey Carl,
I am in fact going with the Dynamax fans... I'm useing the stock ducted fan inlets with a short 6"to 8" extension to move them back and give the air some time to clean up.

After talkin with Tom Cook at Jet Model Products I'm waiting to see what him and Steve Neu are cooking up with his Dynamax fan. It's sounds like it going to be a really speacial setup and under $1000 per unit.

They are making a speacial motor 22xx 8 pole motor just for Tom's setup... the motor case will be the center body to the fan, 10mm shaft with no collect it will be threaded and the rotor bolts straight to the shaft. No viberations or collet to fly off

There working on what KV to run.. the first unit has to hot of a KV they are getting over 8000 watts. I'm hoping they will come in closer to 6000 watts

From what I've been told it sounds like it should be right in the 2.5 pound range for the total unit... so I'm really excited about this unit. Sounds like they are getting everything right

I'm sure you know Tom Cook and how well he does everything so I have really high hope for this unit

Carl, the fan unit Extreme RC has can be bored for up to 52mm motors so it can indeed use a Neu 19 series motor.
