EDF Guy Registered User | Looked into that a couple years ago w/ Tam. Loved the way it flew at Ejets. Cost over $5,000 all done. Nice that it is 1/2 the weight of the Yellow I did. Looking for more info on the Skymaster electric one coming. Don't mean to hijack this thread w/ other F18s. Will post inflight data next. |

Bullet 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!! | Got to see both flights and this flew great. The wing loading is high so takeoff and landing speeds are a little fast but the setup is great. A joy to watch fly at Kentucky! |

SCALEFAN Done it all | Sorry to read and hear about your hard landing. Carl, you have been a pioneer over the years in this whole EDF process with testing motor/fan combinations years ago, setting speed records, to converting heavy planes to EDF. Your work has inspired others. This project is an example of another Carl Rich success, congratulations. Thank you for paving the way, looking forward to reading about your next project. |

Ron101 Pursuit of Happiness Thread OP | Quote: ron, whats your projected RTF weight? I'm looking to be anywhere from 38 to 42 pounds depending on my paint and which packs I choose... I believe I could go the monokote route if I wanted and be close to 38 pounds. But I'm trying not to go that way Here is some weights where I'm at now Complete plane, landing gear and all gear door air cylinders (as it sits today)- 18 lbs 10oz So that puts me at 26 pounds 10oz.... before glass and paint 12s 25c 7800 mah thunder power packs times 2 = 9 lbs 4oz That puts me very close to 36 pounds.... So I have four pounds to work with (to hit 40 pounds) for glass, paint, airline, pilot and half depth co*ckpit. I can see me pushing out to 42 pounds easy. |

It'll be awesome looking and I can't wait to watch the maiden It's only a last resort option if it's becoming a pig I had to monokote my GS P-51 the weight kept packing on... even with monokote it's 27 pound ready to fly which is on the heavy side. Glass and paint would have killed it So it really depends how it's going...so far it look like I'll be ok with glass and paint. Another option could be paint over film, agian only as a last resort I've done a test piece with a new water based product (which I think it thinker water based poly) it's sold by ontartio adhesives called EZE coat. With .5 cloth it's very light.. I also tired water based primer and paint which when the water dries off is very light. I think this will be my best bet... that and putting the paint on light |

Big jolt was the only event I wanted to go to... but we have three trips for family to make down to LA (6 to 7 hours) all with in the next few weeks, so I just can't make it. I wish they would move it to a cooler time also...maybe you guys will luck out on the heat. I don't think I'll go to best of the west.... I'm not into turbines and they are so loud it's hard to hear the EDF's Quote: Ron, did you fabricate those fan mounts?
